About

The most important thing that you need to know about this blog, or any blog, is whether the information it presents is credible. Often, in using the internet, we trade credibility for accessibility; it’s important to remember that information is only as reliable as its source.

Your source for the information in the Massachusetts Data Privacy Law Blog is attorney John Lacey. As a former prosecutor who handled complex fraud and cyber crime cases, Mr. Lacey has a unique understanding of data security issues from a variety of perspectives: companies and individuals trying to prevent breaches or dealing with breaches that have already occurred; law enforcement officials investigating or prosecuting breaches; and criminals thinking of easier, faster and better ways to access information.

His contacts in law enforcement allow him to stay current with information about the latest technologies, schemes and enforcement issues, and he passes that information on to you without divulging privileged information.

Mr. Lacey has received extensive training in identification and prevention of data breaches, and is a graduate of the National Computer Forensic Institute, which is operated by the United States Secret Service. He also has a background in computer technology, and having built computer databases for public and private companies, he has a facility with computer technology that allows him to understand cyber security issues from the information technology perspective. In 2006, the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators named him Prosecutor of the Year.

The Massachusetts Data Privacy Law Blog will help businesses and individuals keep abreast of data security risks, and compliance requirements, like that created by Massachusetts’ data security law, Chapter 93H.

You should feel free to reach out to John as he looks forward to answering your questions, discussing your business needs, identifying ways that your data may be at risk, and developing solutions to problems before or after they arise.
